SOMEONE TO WALK WITH ME

(A. Moscow)

I see the climbers on South Mountain going up and down the hill
With their sturdy boots and their backpacks on
And varying degrees of climbing skill
Sometimes I wonder why we do what we do
Sometimes I wonder why we choose what we choose – I just want
Someone to walk with me

In their little groups of 2s, 3s and 4s they go
Up to the top and then
They turn around and climb back down and
Start all over again
Sometimes I wonder why we do what we do
Sometimes I wonder why we gain when we lose – I just want
Someone to walk with me

An open heart
A gentle face
A kindred friend
A trusted soul and we’ll walk
Arm in arm and hand in hand
Along this road

Sometimes I wonder why we do what we do
Sometimes I wonder why we gain when we lose I just want
Someone to walk with me

WHAT EVERYBODY ELSE WANTS

(A. Moscow)

I said I like your hair
I said I like your way
You said you liked my music and
would come and hear me play
Thank you for the compliment
You seem like a good man
But I didn’t go on Match dot com to
Find another fan

I just want what everybody else wants
Someone I can talk to and
Somebody to hold
I just want what everybody else wants
A little bit of sunshine when the nights get cold

The genius in the wheelchair
Was found inside a strip club
The papers had a field day
Somethin’ juicy to write
That they found him in a strip club
‘stead of doing his equations
But what the heck he had himself a wonderful night

He just want what everybody else wants
Someone to have fun with and
Somebody to hold
He just wants what everybody else wants
A little bit of comfort when the nights get cold

Everybody’s mother every brother and friend
Every stranger that you talk to let me
Sing it again
The person at the bus stop
The lady on the plane
The man behind the counter who you
Can’t pronounce his name
The old folks in the nursing home
The homeless on the street
Each man and ev’ry woman
Everybody you meet

They all just want
What everybody else wants
Someone to believe in them and
Someone to hold
We all just want what everybody else wants
A little bit of sunshine when the nights get cold

I just want what everybody else wants
A little human contact when the nights get cold

HE PAINTS CATS

(A. Moscow)

There’s a man in New York City out there
Livin’ out on the street
He’s an artist
And he paints all day
Then he sells his work to eat

He paints cats
He paints cats
In Washington Square
He paints cats
He paints cats
Every afternoon there

Every morning he sets his canvas up
By the vendors in the park
Then he paints all day then closes up
Before it gets too dark
And everyone around him says the world can be so
Cold and unfair
But he has his friends and he has his bench
And he doesn’t seem to care

You know I’ve done all the things you’re s’posed to do
To find some security
And I can tell you firsthand
It isn’t all it’s cracked up to be
And maybe it’s time to make a change
I could move my piano there and
I will be an artist too
Everyday in Washington Square

BACK AGAIN

(A. Moscow)

First date last night after 31 years
Put on some lipstick, earrings and heels
I smiled at the mirror like a
long lost friend
Felt good to be back again

Back again I’m back again
How long have I been away?
Back again I’m back again
Back again to stay

The colors seemed brighter
The music – alive
People seemed nicer
But then – so did I
I could see the reflection in everyone’s eyes
It said “Welcome back again”

Back again I’m back again
Yesterday’s so far away
Back again I’m back again
Back again to stay

It hardly rains here
The snow doesn’t snow
There are so many interesting
Places to go
and I haven’t laughed this hard since I don’t know when
It’s so good to be
Back again

IT’S JUST WATER

Everybody wants to hear my story
Everybody wants to feel my fears
Everybody wants the gory details
Everybody wants to see my tears

But they’re just water
Water dries
The sun comes out and burns your eyes
And wipes the canvas clean again
And you won’t walk that way again oh no oh no

Everybody wants to tell my story
Everybody wants to use my pain
Everybody wants to raise the victim
Everybody wants to shout my name
Once I longed to tell my story
Paste my sadness everywhere
But I just want to close the door now and
Leave my little story there

‘Cause it’s just dust all dust and blood
The rain comes in it turns to mud
The mud rolls off and down the drain
And you won’t walk that way again oh no

It’s just water
Water dries
The sun comes out and burns your eyes
And wipes the canvas clean again
And you won’t walk that way again
It’s all dust all dust and blood
The rain comes in it turns to mud
The mud rolls off and down the drain
And you won’t walk that way again oh
It’s just water
Water dries
The sun comes out and burns your eyes
And wipes the canvas clean again
And you won’t walk that way again

PASSING TRAINS

Passing trains
Is what we do
You can’t hold onto a
Passing train
So I won’t cling to you

Grains of Sand
Sift through my fingers
If I will live to be 103
Maybe I will understand

these passing trains
it’s what we do
You can’t hold onto a
Passing train
So I won’t cling to you

Kindness
I run to you like a
Beacon in the night
But ev’ry time I
Hold on too tight
It slips away

Passing trains
Is what we do
You can’t hold onto a
Passing train
So I won’t cling to you

TEFLON MAN

Teflon Man
I fell in love with the teflon man
My how he did shine
I saw my own reflection
When I looked into his eyes
Then the sun went down and the wind kicked in
And the mirrors turned to gray
And me, my love and the teflon man
Faded away

So I built myself a teflon house
And locked myself inside
With teflon bricks and teflon sticks
To bounce away the light
So when the sun went down and the wind kicked in
And the leaves blew all around
Deep inside my teflon house I’d be
Safe and sound – Safe and sound

All my friends are teflon friends
All my relations too
We pass each other on the street and say
How do you do?
Then they go their way I go mine
For I am teflon too
Birds of a feather might stick together
But nothing sticks to you

I met a man on a man-made beach
Behind the plastic trees
The teflon panels lightly swayed
To simulate the breeze
He took me in his human arms and
Brushed some clouds away
I looked into his human eyes and said
Not for me today
Not for me today

My friend Regi said
You can’t just be
A fly upon the wall
Thru the act of observation
You’re part of it all
Yeah you’re gonna be part of the show my friend
More than you can conceive
That’s what my friend Regi said
And I’m beginning to believe

SOMEDAY

When ya gonna go to Africa
When we gonna take our trip to China
When ya goin’ back to France again
If not now when

Someday
So easy to say
Someday someday
A thousand somedays
Till another year closes
another window or door
And there’s not enough somedays
Anymore

When ya gonna move out on your own
Get out of your difficult situation
You say he really loves you
But he brings you such pain
If not now when
If not now when

Someday
So easy to say
Someday someday
A thousand somedays
Till another year closes
another window or door
And there’s not enough somedays
Anymore

And me
I’ve got a mountain of dreams
Just bidin’ my time till I can
Be who I wanna be
Someday
I know this limbo will end
If not now when
If not now when

Someday
So easy to say
Someday someday
A thousand somedays
Till another year closes
another window or door
And there’s not enough somedays left
Anymore

Gotta move out past this familiar shore
And move out into the world before
Another year closes
another window or door
And there’s not enough somedays left
Anymore

SOMETIMES I THINK OF YOU

There’s a gentle breeze tonight
Last night the rain fell heavy
And the desert’s all in bloom like spring
Just sittin’ around tonight
Not that much to do
Sometimes I think of you

There’s a full moon tonight
The desert’s all illuminated
Hey did you ever find what you were searchin‘ for
Well I know that you were runnin’ from something‘
‘Cause I was runnin’ too
Sometimes I think of you

Someone said you were headin’ out to Hilo
You packed your things to leave this all behind
Well I hope that life is good to you in Hilo – and it’s
Everything you hoped to find

It’s a quiet night tonight
Some friends are comin’ over
Then we’re just gonna sit outside – enjoy the view
All the stars are out tonight
I can recognize a few
Sometimes I think of you

LOLA

I met him in a club down in old Soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry-cola
C-O-L-A cola
He walked up to me and he asked me to dance
I asked him his name and in a dark brown voice he said Lola
L-o-l-a Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

Well I’m not the worlds most physical kind
But when he squeezed me tight he nearly broke my spine
Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Well I’m not dumb but I can’t understand
The way he talked like a woman but he walked like a man
Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola[ Lyrics from:
Well we drank champagne and danced all night
Under electric candlelight
He picked me up and sat me on his knee
And said my dear girl wont you come home with me
Well I’m not the worlds most passionate type
But when I looked in him eyes well I almost fell for my Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

I pushed him away
I walked to the door
I fell to the floor
I got down on my knees

Then I looked at him and he at me
Well that’s the way that I want it to stay
And I always want it to be that way for my Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It’s a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
